Aspen Credit Card Review
While
completing the research for this article, I was amazed at the
lack of information available for the Aspen credit card. I was
beginning to wonder if there was a secret club that was privy
to this information only. After some searching I was able to
access a couple of websites but only found the application
form, methods of payment and a frequently asked questions
section.
So what did I discover about the Aspen credit card?
The card is only available to you if you live in named
geographic locations. If you live outside of the USA then
please do not apply. The restrictions do not stop there
though. If you live in Iowa, New York, Wisconsin, Puerto Rico
or any other named U.S. territories then you are also on the
black list and would not qualify for an Aspen credit card.
If you are trying to rebuild your credit, then the Aspen
credit card would be helpful to you. The card is unsecured but
there are several fees that make this card very expensive to
keep.
The fees attached to the Aspen credit card are as follows:
• $20 must be paid before you can activate and use the credit
card
• Annual Fee of $150 per year
• One time account opening fee of $29
• Monthly maintenance fee of $6.50
• Late or over limit fee of $35 each
Apart from the $20 fee which is paid before the account can be
activated, all other fees are posted to your account after
your application has been accepted.
It seems as if these fees make up part of your credit limit
and the average limit given by Aspen is $300. If you do the
math then this does not leave you with a lot of credit for
spending on the things you need.
I could not find any information to indicate whether or not
the Aspen credit card reports to the three major credit
bureaus as this would be helpful if you need to show a good
payment profile for rebuilding your credit. You would need to
find out from the issuer whether they report to the credit
bureaus or not.
On the plus side you would be able to use your new credit card
on the Plus® and Honor® network or wherever the MasterCard®
logo is displayed.
Looking at the information available on the Aspen credit card,
there is not much to go on in terms of explaining the benefits
of owning the card. It would have been useful to know how it
could help rebuild credit and how much credit one would
actually have available after all the fees have been deducted
from the account.
A better alternative seems to be the Imagine
Gold Credit Card.
The Imagine Credit Card offered by the First Bank of Delaware,
ensures you have transparent information on exactly what you
are going to get if you apply for the card. This card
guarantees you approval with a $300 - $350 credit limit. It is
designed to work with you to increase your credit rating by
reporting to the three major credit bureaus and once you
continue to pay your bills on time, you would be entitled to
regular credit line increases.
