There Are Many Credit Cards For Poor Credit
Getting credit cards for poor credit used to be extremely
difficult, but it has become easier over time. This is largely
because these types of cards are more accepted today, and they are
needed more and more because people are struggling to pay their
bills.
Unfortunately, a lot of people who have credit problems don’t
realize that they can get credit cards for poor credit, often rather
easily. These cards can be for people who:
- Have paid their bills late
- Have a bankruptcy, repossession, or foreclosure
- Have a judgment against them
- Have unpaid medical bills
There are also other situations where these cards may be useful,
but the four listed above are the most common ones.
How Did My Credit Get Like This?
Credit problems can happen to people for almost any reason – loss
of a job, unexpected illness, divorce – and they certainly leave a
black mark on the credit report. With credit cards for poor credit,
though, credit ratings can be rebuilt. This can take time. It’s not
like a person can get some credit cards and in a few months have a
high credit rating again. It takes effort and it is a slow process.
As you use credit cards for poor credit, and show that you can
pay them on time, your credit limits will slowly increase and your
interest rates will slowly come down. Eventually, if you are able to
avoid further credit problems, you will be able to qualify for
credit cards that are not designed for poor credit. These cards will
be unsecured, and the features and benefits of them will often be
much better.
In addition, they will have credit limits in the thousands of
dollars, instead of in the hundreds. If you struggle with your
credit, though, and you find that you are not able to get a credit
card, you might consider secured cards.
Is A Secured Card Right For Me?
Maybe. It largely depends on how poor your credit is, how long
it’s been that way, and what it was like before these problems
started. People who need credit cards for poor credit are typically
not people who have had fifteen years of good credit and then one
small problem. They are people who have a limited credit report and
have struggled with small problems – and sometimes larger ones –
over an extended period of time.
This suggests a pattern of problematic credit, but this pattern
can eventually be changed. By getting credit cards for poor credit,
though, the rebuilding of your credit can begin. Even though it
won’t happen overnight, it will happen, but you have to take the
first step. Applying for these cards and using them carefully can be
a great way to take that first step and put yourself back on the
road to a higher credit score.
