GM Credit Card Review

When you use your rewards card, you are sometimes left with the feeling that the rewards you gain wouldn’t be of any use to you.  Well why settle for simple cashback and stationary rewards.  Get the most out of your reward card…how about a car.  Yes you read correctly, you could gather reward points that are redeemable off the purchase or lease of a brand new car.

Who has this offer?

GM, that’s who.  With the new GM Credit Card once you make a purchase you earn points towards a new GM vehicle.

I know what you are thinking; it would take forever to earn enough points to purchase a new car.  GM knows this, and the card was created to offer a maximum redemption allowance based on the GM model you want.

As an example, if you want to purchase the 2007 GMC CANYON, the maximum you can redeem towards this vehicle is $1500.  Allowances offered by GM are as high as $3500.

To see what the maximum allowance is on different vehicles why not check out the Redemption Allowance Calculator.

Other Vehicles

If you’re not a fan of GM cars, you can choose any other vehicle, but you should know that you won’t build your points as quickly as if you were purchasing a GM vehicle.

Let me explain.

When you get your new GM Credit card you have three rewards options to choose from:

  • TRIPLE EARNINGS to 3% toward an eligible, new GM vehicle
  • 1% EARNINGS toward any other new vehicle, including Saturn and Saab
  • 1% CASH BACK in $100 increments

So when purchasing a non GM vehicle your reward points would only be 1% as opposed to the 3% that’s on offer with the first option.

If you already own the car of your dreams then you might want to choose the GM Credit Card Cashback option and earn 1% on all purchases.

What Are The Main Other Benefits

The GM Credit Card has some nice benefits aimed at saving you time and money firstly and best of all:

No Annual Fee.  I don’t believe in paying a vendor to use a card that charges me interest each time I use it.  And this brings me to the second benefit.

There is a 0% Introductory APR after which the APR moves to 14.24%, 18.24%, or 21.24% depending on your credit status.

For busy people, take advantage of the Complete Online Account Access and Online Earnings Management to manage your GM Credit Card at home or on the go.

How Do You Redeem Your Rewards?

Redeeming is quite simple, just follow the next three steps and you’d be on you way to owning your new vehicle.

  1. Go to your local GM dealer and choose any new GM vehicle you want.
  2. Use the available incentives to negotiate a price that suits you.
  3. Inform the dealer that you are a GM Credit Card holder and ask for your available earnings to be deducted.

And that’s it, after a bit of paperwork you’ll be driving out the showroom in GM style.

If you are redeeming your points for a non GM vehicle, the process is a bit different. Obviously you can’t redeem at a GM dealer so instead you’ll have to visit www.gmflexcard.com and perform the redemption there.

Likewise for cash redemptions, they are also redeemed at www.gmflexcard.com .

Additional Benefits

The GM Credit Card offers additional benefits that are available to members only.  These range from exclusive GMAC educational loans to the On-Star security system.

These benefits sound great, don’t they.  So what are you waiting for?  Apply for your GM card today!
