Washington Mutual Credit Card Review

If you want to apply for a Washington Mutual credit card you should note that you have a better chance of being approved if your credit rating is relatively good. The credit card is not designed for applicants with bad credit who are looking to rebuild their credit history.

When I was looking for information on the Washington Mutual credit card, I read through various forums and found that most of the consumers who used the card had a favourable experience. Generally the problems found were related to accessing the credit card application via a website called www.getmyvisa.com. This website requires a reservation number to be entered which is sent with an offer in the post. If you want to apply without the pre-offer, then you can visit the Washington Mutual homepage, there is a credit card section there for applying for and maintaing credit card accounts.

The Washington Mutual credit card has a Platinum Visa offer with rates that are quite competitive. They promise to give you an online decision in 30 seconds, but not everyones’ situation is the same and there would be some applications that may require a longer time to process.

The current platinum offer gives you a 0% introductory APR for 6 months and based on your credit rating the reversionary APR can range from 9.99% – 19.99%. In addition you would be able to enjoy 0% balance transfer fee for the introductory period. These rates do not include the cash advance APR as this carries a separate rate of 23.99% .

There are no rewards offered with this card although there is mention of Platinum MasterCard benefits. A list of these benefits are only sent to you once you are a cardholder, so I could not tell you what they are. There is however a sort of incentive offered, if you pay your bills on time, remain within your credit limit and meet other credit card terms, you would be sent discount vouchers with your monthly statements. These can be redeemed at popular retail merchants.

Named benefits of the Washington Mutual credit card are, no annual fees, $0 fraud liability on unauthorized purchases and a unique feature that allows you to view your FICO credit scores online.

The Washington Mutual credit card seems to be an average card. The introductory rate is a bit on the short side and there are no major rewards that are promoted to entice customers. Those who applied for such cards have reported that they received limits around $7500, but limits are relative to your salary, so you could receive more or less.

There are some good offers on the market for balance transfer credit cards which carry longer introductory periods some of which apply to new purchases as well. If you are looking for rewards, there are also great reward credit cards whose offerings range from Gas rebates to NFL points.
